Hana Tajima-Inspirational Muslim Women

She is widely recognized by girls across the globe, and her online fashion label is a hit sensation. She has also inspired many people and designers throughout the world and opened their eyes to the beauty of Islam. She is none other than Hana Tajima!!!

Hana Tajima is the daughter of a Japanese father and an English Mother and was born in rural Devon. As a British born citizen her father was the only ethnically different in the small town.

Hana had no idea when she decided to convert to Islam, but it wasn't until she went to college when she met people that were from different backgrounds. It was when she met people who weren't into drinking, Jeff Buckley, underground hip-hop, and getting high. When she met these few Muslims in college she was strangely curious and slightly affronted about their lack of not wanting to go to clubs or to socialize in that kind of sense. She thought  "I mean how could you not want to go out like that in this day and age." Hana was surely shocked by the behavior of these Muslims.

While studying philosophy  Hana started to get confused about her life. She was pretty popular, had good friends, even boyfriends  she seemed to have everything that she was supposed to have, but she always felt, "Is that it?" She started to read more about religion, learned more about friends from other backgrounds, and also had a quarter life crisis. There were certain things that drew her to Islam in particular, and the Qur'an the same now as it always was, became her reference point.  The issues of women's rights were shockingly contemporary and the more Hana read the more she began to agree with the ideas behind it, and she finally began understanding how Islam colored the lives of her Muslim friends.

When she told her family about her turning to Islam, they were perfectly fine with it. They were happy as long as she was happy and they saw that Islam was an extremely positive thing. Her friends on the other hand, went two ways.  Some met her with the lack of a reaction and lost to the social sense, while the others were interested and supportive. More the former, less the latter.

Hana Tajima Simpson (full name) went on to create her online fashion label, Maysaa. Her endless devotion to fashion, brought her to a much respected level in the fashion industry. Originally based in London, Maysaa has now stretched its wings to most parts of Southeast Asia, countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei.

Hana says, " There was a certain idea I had in my head about how a Muslim woman should look which is the black Abaya (baggy dress and a scarf), but I realized that this is not true and that I could experiment with my looks, while being modest...It took a lot of trial and error to find a style and a look I'm happy with."

Hana regularly blogs about her designs on the website---Stylecovered.com

While all of her clothes are suitable for women who wear the hijab, she doesn't design with a specific group in mind.

"Frankly, I design for myself... I think about what I'd like to wear and design it. I have many non-Muslim customers as well, so my designs are not targeted at Muslims alone..." -Hana
